AIS Gear up for NBN

Gary has over 20 years experience in the Civil Construction Industry and has been involved in the NBN roll out for the past 18 months. During this project he worked for John Holland in Tasmania on the first of the roll out sites as Field Manager. Gary describes the project in Tasmania -

"We had 265 kms of ADDS aerial fibre cable to run between towns and about 72 km of fig 8 cable to the houses . We had 152 pole swap outs to do, 120 were done under live conditions - HV could not be de-energised as it was the only feeder into some towns. There was also 14 km of underground construction to be installed. I was involved in design for the backhaul cable between towns and make ready work."

The majority of people employed on the Tasmania project had no previous fibre experience. Gary trained them on the job which was no easy task with 30 men on the team.  Gary has mainly been involved in Optic Fibre Networks for Optus, Telstra, John Holland Communications, CEC Group,  Ergon Energy, Energy Australia, Cairns Council, Rockhampton Council, Country Energy, NZ Telecom.

Gary has a Diploma in Telecommunications, holds an ACA Austel Licence and has a certificate in Fibre Optic Splicing & Testing.
